abstract="The paper is an abridged report on the reconstruction of a rather complicated road vehicle accident in which a passenger car underrode a semitrailer during night conditions. The aim of the paper is to present the methodology of investigating multi-faceted problems in the field of inverse engineering, the solving of which goes far beyond resolving the elementary forensic, mathematical or laboratory issues. The paper includes, inter alia, the calculation of impact velocity by means of Kudlich-Slibar model, energy-based method and finite element method, as well as the time-distance analysis of the pre-crash phase. What deserves special attention is the section in which a unique method of investigating the obstacle visibility, including glare, at night is described. Key words Road vehicle accident; Frontal underride crash; Finite element method; EES; Night visibility; Experiment.<p /> <p>Language: en</p>",
