A new World Health Organization (WHO) report urges cities around the globe to take steps to curb noncommunicable diseases and road injuries, which account for 80% of deaths globally. The report notes that cities may be more nimble at implementing change than nations. It also highlights successful approaches from cities around the world. “By replicating the most effective measures on a global scale, we can save millions of lives,” said former New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, WHO global ambassador for noncommunicable diseases and injuries. “We’re working to raise awareness among city leaders and policy makers about the real gains that can be achieved.”
