abstract="Right-turn priority overlap stages provide a means of assistance for right-turning vehicles at traffic signals. Signalling practice in the U.K. varies, with many areas preferring only to adopt the 'early cut-off' technique. However, some authorities, mostly in the North of England, have been prepared to implement different options allowing appropriate comparisons to be made. Such options include the use of the early start overlap with an indicative green arrow. This paper considers the available methods and their associated difficulties. Reference is also made to techniques used in Europe and Australia. Results of a study of the accident records of sites in Manchester to which different signalling techniques have been applied are discussed.<p />",
