abstract="This study was undertaken in an attempt to quantify pedestrian reaction to the flashing WALK as well as to the steady WALK indications. The steady WALK data is necessary to establish a frame of reference which is based on historical background and studies as well as on communicty acceptance and use. The locations selected for the study required both a high concentration of pedestrians and a high traffic volume. The types of crossings were classified into five categories.<p />",
