abstract="The importance of a controlled motion sequence of the belted passenger is shown. Only biomechanically optimal conditions of restraint force application offer the prerequisites necessary for getting the best out of the present biomechanical tolerance limits (included in FMVSS 208 (HIC, SI) and in some EC-proposals). First available results of current belt accident investigations prove that lack of controlled motion is a problem. Supplements and modification of safety standards are claimed to be the only effective method of speeding up improvements on the belt-seat-system, and that the herein proposed motion sequence criteria and design specifications including the test results should facilitate this direction. One possible belt-restraint-seat design is introduced, and its favorable biomechanical properties are demonstrated.   <p>Language: en</p>",
