abstract="The main objective of this study was to validate a finite element dummy model for simulation of air bag interaction with an in-position occupant in a frontal vehicle crash. A second objective was to develop a simplified semi-rigid version of the finite element dummy and compare the responses from the two simulations. Since the deformable finite element dummy is more robust and more accurate, fewer runs may be required during the final stages of dummy correlation. Therefore, the total time to develop a correlated model could be competitive with the hybrid approach.<p />",
