abstract="The influence of subfracture impact loading on the patellofemoral joint in a rabbit is studied. Results show that a single subfracture impact to the joint, of sufficient intensity to produce subtle lesions on retro-atellar articular cartilage, produces no statistical change in the functional mechanical properties of cartilage prior to twelve months post-impact. On the other hand, impact induced cartilage lesions deepen over that timeframe and three months post-impact histological changes are evident in the underlying zone of calcified cartilage and subchondral bone. These result are supported by other studies involving blunt impact trauma to joints. <p>Language: en</p>",
