abstract="Right-turn-on-red (RTOR) as a means of expediting traffic movements can be complemented with auxiliary right-turn lanes. In this study the characteristics of several RTOR flow parameters are identified from field observations. These and other flow characteristics are analyzed with a simulation model to examine alternative designs and operations relating to RTOR and the use of auxiliary right-turn lanes. To allow an auxiliary right-turn lane to fully serve its function, AASHO recommended that the storage length of such a lane be long enough to prevent a blockage of the traffic in an approach lane. Based on this design requirement, an analytical method for determining the storage lengths is developed.<p /><p>Language: en</p>",
