abstract="The light signal is disturbed slightly by environment, climate and terrain, and is more effective than sound signal especially at night. The new locomotive flash light alerting system is made up of one headlight and a pair of auxiliary lights to form a right triangle. The auxiliary lights have the function to flash. The parameters including light beam width, the height above rail and the space of two lights have been determined. By experimental method, efficiency and the influence on drivers' sight tiredness to the light system have been studied. The light alerting system operates well, and meets the requirement of both illumination and alerting system.<p />",
