abstract="The need for providing training to employees on safety measures for managing the risks while working around the conveyor belts are discussed. The risk of injury around belt conveyors is high, even though a belt conveyor is locked out and tagged out. There are places along the conveyor system where the tensions are higher than the other areas of the system, which can result in an injury to the employee. The employees who are in need of training include cleanup personnel, maintenance personnel, conveyor belt inspectors, foreman responsible for belt conveyors, engineers who design conveyors, and safety personnel. The employees should be educated as to where the tensions are located based on the conveyor drive configuration, which can be at the discharge or head end of the conveyor. When employers are required to be on the conveyor or near pinch points on the conveyor, the belt must be physically restrained from moving under its own power, which is known as 'blocking' the conveyor belt.<p />",
