abstract="Formal Safety Assessment is applied to risk assessment for total loss of fishery vessels. The basic theoretical frame is established. The development of the ship's risk assessment and Formal Safety Assessment is introduced. The fishery vessel accidents are categorized by historical data. The causes of total loss are analyzed on human errors, hardware failures and external events. The frequency of the accidents and the severity of the consequences are classified. Risk matrix is established that is fit to fishery vessels. Risk control options and suggestions to decision-making are put forward.<p />",
