abstract="
Avaliable as open access : http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1337402/...."Nonaccidental injury" is a euphemism to describe an injury to a child resulting from a deliberate act by the parent or caretaker--child abuse. The term also endorses the generally held view that there are also accidental injuries to children that are innocent and therefore do not require ecaluation of the caretaker's role. An accident can be defined as an event that could not have been anticipated or prevented. this definition means that most childhood injuries do not qualify as true "accidents".... Every childhood injiury justifies a constructive exploration of the circumstances. Such inquiries should attempt to identify the factors that create risk....
