abstract="Struggling to understand the reasons for the recent upsurge in the number of teenage suicides, we might pause to consider factors larger than traditional sociological and psychological explanations. The author suggests ways basic societal values have changed in our time, creating an ethos more materialistic and self-oriented than any previously known. As traditional religious and theological restraints on individual behavior give way, as society's understanding of the nature of human contracts changes, we should not be surprised to see increases in divorce, abortion, drug abuse, euthanasia and suicide. The question is how best to reverse such a trend.<p /><p>Language: en</p>",
