abstract="The topmost cause of accidents among older drivers is an unintended stop-sign violation. We investigated the environmental factors that cause older drivers to fail to see a stop sign and unintentionally pass through an intersection. Ten older (67-78 years) and ten younger drivers (21-24 years) participated in this study. Participants drove a car following the experimenter's navigation guidance, and were asked to obey the traffic rules. The results indicated that, unlike the younger drivers, older drivers sometimes did not stop at the stop lines under specific conditions, and that these non-stop behaviors were observed in only half of the older participants. hese findings indicate that awareness of stop signs among older drivers is not only related to visual barriers and the prominence of signs, but also other environmental conditions and individual differences.<p /> <p>Language: ja</p>",
