abstract="Twelve thermally injured patients were admitted to the burn ward of the University of Cincinnati Medical Center from penal institutions in the past six years. Six case histories were reviewed. The mortality rate was 66% and there were some with pulmonary complications. The problem of fires and burns in locked facilities is reviewed and some methods of prevention discussed.",
