abstract="The Supreme Court heard oral arguments on November 3, 2021, for a Second Amendment case: New York State Rifle and Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen.2 The New York law before the Supreme Court addressed individual Second Amendment rights to carry in the public sphere. 3 The question before the Court was whether New York's denial of Petitioners' applications for concealed-carry licenses for self-defense violated the Second Amendment. 4 This article will use the discriminatory history and implementation of gun control laws to tackle Second Amendment precedent and examine the ramifications of potential outcomes from Bruen. 5 In June the Supreme Court issued their opinion in Bruen, which emphasized the importance of the history and tradition surrounding the Second Amendment. In striking down New York's licensing regime, the Supreme Court held that the proper legal analysis of a regulation in the Second Amendment context uses text and historical tradition.
