abstract="World Health Day, April 7, 1983 has been devoted to the slogan "Health for All by the Year 2000--The countdown has begun!". The aim of this slogan is based on the so-called "Declaration of Alma-Ata", which was accepted by the International Conference on Primary Health Care, which was held in Alma-Ata, USSR, September 6-12, 1978. The article considers some of the prerequisites to changes that need to be made during the next 17 years until the year 2000 so that all can live under such conditions that they can enjoy at least an acceptable state of health. Conditions considered are: the negative development of world economy affects the health situation; lack of pure water and sanitary equipment mean poor health; poor nourishment and poor health go hand in hand; poisoning of water supplies, food and medications can become a threat to public health; living conditions and depressions; the prevention of road traffic accidents is a public health task; misuse of alcohol and other drugs has serious health consequences; life expectancy in developed and developing countries; and ill health as a result of political actions.

Language: en
",
