abstract="Lane-changing algorithm developments through mathematical modelling and simulations have attracted attention over the past years. However, little has been done to investigate the interdependency between the dynamics of queues at isolated signalized intersections and the lane-changing behaviour of approaching vehicles at the intersection. This study aimed to identify the lane-changing patterns of vehicles upstream of an intersection in the presence of a vehicle queue in heterogeneous conditions. The study was conducted in a three-lane signalized intersection in Colombo, Sri Lanka with two dedicated lanes for right turning and a single lane for through and left movements. The data were collected on Monday and Saturday from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm using a drone camera to encompass the peak and off-peak travel behaviour. The findings highlighted the most influential factors in the lane-changing occurrence in the perception of a queue. Therefore, the research findings are beneficial in identifying driver behaviour patterns in terms of lane changing influenced by a queue at signalized intersections.<p /> <p>Language: en</p>",
