abstract="The paper focuses on the importance of superelevation of rural road curves. Superelevation was measured for both shoulders and both lanes on horizontal curves of undivided, bituminous surfaced rural roads in three Australian states. There was no uniformity in superelevation across roads and it was usually less for the outer half of the road. Typical pattern of superelevation was not found to be due to settlement, but rather to inadequate construction supervision, unsuccessful attempts at maintenance, and official neglet. Recommendations are made for more comprehensive treatment of superelevation in guides, for improved standards in roadbuilding, for rectification of existing curves, and for ongoing maintenance.   <p>Language: en</p>",
