abstract="The paper presents the rates and pattern of bicycle injuries in Western Australia using data from police reports and hospital admissions for a 15-month period. There were 842 injured bicyclist admitted to hospital (21.5% of all road crash admissions) and 1066 casualties from bicycle crashes reported to the police (5.6% of all reported casualties). By linking the two data sources, hospital admissions and police accident reports, it was estimated that there were at least 3700 bicyclist injured per year in Western Australia. Injury rates per 10,000 persons in the population were highest for those persons aged 5 to 24 years and were considerably higher for males than for females. Injury rates per 100,000 km travelled were similar for males and females, and were highest for persons over 65 years of age.   <p>Language: en</p>",
