abstract="The survey procedures and side force criteria currently used by Australian State Road Authorities for advisory speed determination, are described and compared, together with a description of an instrument system for advisory speed surveys currently developed by the Australian Road Research Board. The results of an error analysis are presented, which show that the errors in computed advisory speed from survey inaccuracies are greater than the differences which occur due to the different criteria used by the road authorities.
