abstract="This paper presents an analysis of patterns of casualty accidents involving trucks in the City of Melbourne over the period 1979-83. Using Road Traffic Authority accident data, supplemented by examination of police accident records and vehicle registration records, a comprehensive overview of truck accidents is presented. These accidents are analysed in terms of: accident type, accident location, intersection control, and drivers' blood alcohol concentration. Truck accident patterns are compared with accidents involving all vehicle types, and differences highlighted. The most important results probably relate to rear-end accidents as these offer scope for accident reduction and disclose the most useful information.<p />",
