abstract="We describe the case of a 27-year-old woman who in addition to the symptoms of factitious disorder showed deliberate ingestion of foreign objects. The relationship between secret and open self-destructive behavior is discussed. Analysis of situational factors highlights the importance of interactional background for the manifestation of impulsive self-harm.
