abstract="Compared to its proportion of the total population the age group of older people (65+ years) is overrepresented in suicide statistics in Germany and many other countries. Risk factors are social stressors, impaired physical and psychological well-being and functioning as well as maladaptive coping. Suicide ideation is an indicator for suicidal tendencies. Primary health care providers are important for identifying older adults at risk.
