abstract="A ten year study of suicides due to poisoning had been carried out by this department. out of 714 cases of suicidal deaths, 357 (50%) accounted for suicide by poisoning. The majority of suicidal deaths, i.e. 226 (63.3%) were due to aluminum phosphide. 142 (63.83%) males and 86 females (37,17%) committed suicide by consuming aluminum phosphide. 117 (51.77%) belonged to the upper caste. 141 (62.38%) were Sikhs and (56,19%) were rural inhabitants.
