abstract="Ethylene glycol and methanol poisonings are potentially lethal situations where the clinician must have a high index of suspicion. Patients typically present in either an inebriated state or coma with anion and osmolal gaps if access to medical care has been delayed. Acidosis should be treated aggressively with sodium bicarbonate to maintain a blood pH level of > 7.2. Therapy with an ethanol infusion and hemodialysis must be initiated rapidly before laboratory confirmation if patients are to have the best opportunity for a satisfactory outcome.<p /><p>Language: en</p>",
