abstract="Since May 1996, the pharmaceutical department of Cochin hospital is in charge of supplying and dispensing of drugs in << Paris-La Sante >> prison. A pharmaceutical unit has been created inside the prison health service named << UCSA >> which assumes somatic treatments to the prisoners. The pharmaceutical unit prepares weekly nominative medicine treatments after a control of every prescription by a pharmacist. Drug prescriptions are numerous (250 new prescriptions a week) various, often containing neuropsychiatric drugs. Confidentiality in drug administration has been improved but is still a problem. The pharmaceutical team in UCSA is in constant relationship with medical and paramedical staff. It gives pharmaceutical advises, prevents long term treatments interruptions and is vigilant on possible drugs misusage or abuse by the prisoners: Stocking (because of a bad compliance or for suicide attempt), racket, raise or use to do a swop. Prisoners relations to medicine are sometimes complex. The pharmacy unit is implicated in the prescription and dispensing strategy of drug addict treatments, in the preparation of leaving jail, and in prevention and health care about hygiene and correct use of drugs.<p /><p>Language: en</p>",
