abstract="The ingestion of acids leads to epithelial damage of the gastrointestinal tract, which may result in hemorrhage, perforation or necrosis. The intensity of the damage depends on the type, the concentration and the quantity of the ingested liquid. The necrosis on the lower parts of the gastrointestinal tract without concomitant necrosis of the esophagus, stomach or jejunum is extremely uncommon.
