abstract="In the national competence network 'depression, suicidality' physicians, scientists and the most important health institutions combine their efforts in order to struggle against depressive disorders and suicidality. Depression and suicidality are overlapping fields. In the national competence network 'depression, suicidality' new communication structures shall be established to optimize diagnosis, treatment and research. Therefore the project is intended for the professional helpers and scientists as well as the persons affected, the relatives and the whole population. The network will also inform and sensitise the population with public relations work and a special awareness program about the depressive illness and the possibilities of therapy. The project contains 28 subprojects to explore depressive disorders and to evaluate new ways of therapy. The german Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) who initiated the ambitious and so far unique research program 'Nets of Competence in Medicine' supports the project with 25 million DM over a period of 5 years.<p /><p>Language: en</p>",
