abstract="A Titansphere™ TiO column was used for extraction of phosphorus-containing amino acid-type herbicides (PAAHs) and their metabolites from human plasma and whole blood, and their determination was carried out by capillary electrophoresis (CE). A 1.0-ml volume of plasma was diluted with 1.0 ml of 0.2% TFA solution, and the solution was passed through a GL Chromatodisk. A 1.0-ml volume of the sample solution was injected into the Titansphere™ TiO column. In the case of whole blood, a 0.5-ml sample was diluted with 1.5 ml of 1.0% TFA solution. After centrifugation, the supernatant fraction was passed through a GL Chromatodisk. The 1.0 ml filtrate aliquot was diluted with 3.0 ml of water, and a 4.0-ml volume of the sample solution was injected into the same column. PAAHs and their metabolites were eluted from the column with 2.1% NH4OH solution, and determined by CE. No interfering peaks existed in the electropherograms. Calibration curves for the authentic solution of glyphosate (GLYP), aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA), glufosinate (GLUF), 3-methylphosphinicopropionic acid (MPPA) and bialaphos (BIAL) equally showed good linearity. The detection limits of GLYP, AMPA, GLUF, MPPA and BIAL were 20, 30, 30, 30 and 30 μM (S/N = 3), respectively. The recoveries of GLYP, AMPA and GLUF from human whole blood were above 94%; but that for MPPA was 47%. BIAL could not be recovered from whole blood. The present method can be used for the rapid and simple determination of PAAHs and their metabolites in human blood in actual cases of accidental and suicidal ingestion of PAAHs.<p /><p>Language: en</p>",
