abstract="Asphyxial deaths being very common in the region of North Bengal, this retrospective study was undertaken by the faculty members of Department of Forensic Medicine, North Bengal Medical College. With 225 cases of asphyxial deaths in the year 2003, we set out to find important trends in not only the modes of asphyxia, but also other factors like seasonal distribution, antecedent factors.
