abstract="Suicide in children and adolescents constitutes a serious mental health problem whose frequency has increased during the last 5 years. Some of the variables associated to suicide risk are depressive symptomatology, low selfesteem, dysfunctional attitudes, and negative life events. The present study examined the relationship between suicide ideation, depression, self-esteem, dysfunctional attitudes and negative life events in a clinical sample of Puerto Rican adolescents whose ages ranged from 12 to 18 years old (61 females, 52 males). Participants were evaluated with the following instruments: Suicide Risk Identification Scale (IRSA), Children's Depression Inventory (CDI), Dysfunctional Attitudes Scale (DAS), Piers-Harris Children's Self -Concept Scale (PHCSCS) and Stressful Life Events Checklist (SLEC). Statistical analyses revealed a significant relationship between suicide ideation and the variables mentioned above. Implications of these results for prevention, treatment and further studies are discussed.<p /><p>Language: es</p>",
