abstract="A car-to-car side impact model has been developed using the Articulated Total Body (ATB) occupant simulation program and validated. Compared to the existing side impact models, the developed model has a more detailed representation of the vehicle side structure for the realistic impact response of the door. This model includes an impact bar which effectively increases the side structure stiffness without reduction of space between the occupant and the door and the padding material for absorbing impact energy. The developed model is applied to a four-door vehicle. The parameter study indicates that a stiffer impact bar and B-pillar would reduce the pelvis lateral acceleration and the thoracic trauma index: TTI(d). The injury severity for the occupant is also reduced by the attachment of the padding material. <p>Language: en</p>",
