abstract="In this study, 70 patients admitted to an Auckland (New Zealand) hospital following a suicide attempt were screened with a brief problem gambling screen (the EIGHT Screen) by hospital staff. Twelve (17.1%) tested positive for problem gambling, with half having attempted suicide in the past. A conclusion was drawn that problem gambling amongst those who had attempted suicide could be an important factor in designing effective future interventions. © Springer Science + Business Media, Inc. 2006.<p /><p>Language: en</p>",
