abstract="BACKGROUND: Suicide is nowadays one of the leading death causes amongst the young (aged 15-24), both in Italy and in other western world countries. Being able to recognize risk factors associated with this behaviour is fundamental in order to identify subgroups of people at high risk. Effective prevention strategies for adolescent suicide should thus consist in the treatment of those at risk. A number of risk factors have been identified, the most significant being a previous suicide attempt and the presence of psychiatric disorders. Impulsivity has been identified as a shared risk factor for suicidal behaviour in adolescent patients with different disorders.

AIM OF THE STUDY: In this article we analyze the importance of these risk factors and the influence that substance abuse can have on suicidal behaviour in young. Moreover we evaluate the importance of the decision making in patients with suicidal behaviour. Finally, we suggest a clinical modus operandi to deal with these behaviours in different structures of the hospital. © 2009 Elsevier Srl. All rights reserved.

Language: fr
",
