abstract="Facing the intellectual weakness of the debate about the amazing number of recent suicides in the firm France Télécom Orange, this paper proposes a main hypothesis : The psychical vulnerability of the workers and engineers of this firm has to be related to a major characteristic of managerial practices that can also be observed in other workplaces. Antipathy has become a form of professional skill. The more you climb in the firm hierarchy, the more you have to be able to know how to close your eyes and your ears to your colleagues and subordinates’ personal distress created by the new form of cruelty in workplacꀙs human relations. This hypothesis meets some anthropological issues closely connected with the anti-utilitarianist MAUSS paradigm. Utilitarianist intellectual hegemony has contributed to turn "coexistence formŝ€? into unnecessary ̂€œresidueŝ€? that can or must be erased, in order to improve efficiency, without taking account of their anthropological centrality.
