abstract="Paraquat is a herbicide water soluble, commonly used in many agricultural areas of the world for its effectiveness, low cost and absence of accumulation in the environment. However acute poisoning is a public health problem in Asia and the Caribbean by causing high mortality. The diagnosis is based on a history of ingestion, the clinical picture and confirmation of the poison by the laboratory, particularly the determination of dithionite in urine. There are no effective antidote to treat poisoning, so it is important to prevent its absorption through vomiting and gastric lavage with Fuller's earth, easy removal of plasma and its elimination in urine and neutralize their effects on target organs mainly lung and kidney. The purpose of this paper is to present a case of a teenager to commit suicide PQ ingested and subsequently developed acute renal failure, hemodialysis and reversible with successful development, as well as review the pathophysiological mechanisms involved and the management of complications.<p /><p>Language: es</p>",
