abstract="Depression is one of the most important psychiatric comorbidity in multiple sclerosis and is associated with increased disability and poor quality of life. The diagnosis is challenging because of the overlapping symptomatology. The pathogenesis is complex and controversial, the incidence is high, but is frequently under-diagnosed and under-treated. The aim of this article is to review the most important aspects of depression in multiple sclerosis as: epidemiology, pathogenesis, assessment, correlates with disability, cognition, fatique, quality of life, suicide, the relationship with the immunomodulatory therapy, neuroimaging and treatment options. © 2015 Editura Medicala AMALTEA.
