abstract="Hanging is considered to be one of the painless methods for committing a suicide, more commonly preferred by females rather than males who opt for violent deaths like lying on a railway track. But, some men overtly prefer hanging than other methods to commit suicide. Materials used for hanging may vary from, a soft saree of a related person whom the deceased is emotionally bound like mother, sister, spouse or of a girlfriend to any hard materials like rope, wire, packing strap or any other material immediately available at that instances. Many suicides are planned where-in the person writes a suicide note, whereas in unplanned suicides the person commits suicide at any spur of emotions in which the person uses a material immediately available. However, suicidal hanging by a handkerchief is a rare phenomenon usually seen across. Here is one such case of suicidal hanging by a handkerchief. © 2015 South India Medico-Legal Association.
