abstract="Profiling of the medicolegal cases is important to know the quality and quantity of caseload to be expected by the medicolegal workforce serving the area. A retrospective study was conducted at Index Medical College Hospital and Research Center Indore M.P. covering the first five years of its establishment as a teaching hospital in the rural area of central India. The study revealed that road traffic accidents (60.7%) constituted the majority of medicolegal cases out of the total 596 cases, followed by poisoning (14.3%) and assault (10.6%). Accidents were the major cause of injury; male preponderance was at 2.6: 1, most affected age group was 21-30 years (36.2%). The peak time of incidence was during 1601-2000 hours (36.4%) and the maximum cases were recorded in the month of April (11.1%). Out of the 596 cases 408 (68.5%) were discharged and 12 (2%) died due to their injuries. © 2015, World Informations Syndicate. All rights reserved.<p /><p>Language: en</p>",
