abstract="The article provides a summary of the current discussion on a legal regulation of physician-assisted suicide and organized forms of aiding and abetting suicide in Germany. It points out the controversial questions under discussion, and gives an overview of the bills that have been introduced into the parliamentary debate. The starting point for the elaboration of the perspective of Christian life ethics is the delineation of prominent theological positions (Hans Küng/Michael Frieß, Eberhard Schockenhoff, Orientierungshilfe der EKD). In conscious reference to and in critical examination of these positions the article considers the questions of the significance and the limit of the right of self determination, and of the scope of human responsibility with regard to the end of human life.

Language: en
",
