abstract="This article gives an overview of road accident trends in Taiwan. Historical statistics of traffic accidents and causes are given for 1985-2005, as well as 2005 statistics for accidents, fatalities, and injuries by vehicle type. The article relates that while safety measures such as requirements for motorcycle helmets and seat belts, and drunk driving penalties have been implemented, the motor vehicle accident rate still remains high.<p />",
