abstract="INTRODUCTION: Suicide constitutes a major public health problem and is a global phenomenon. Pattern of suicidal deaths reflects prevailing social set up and mental health status of the region. Aims & Objective: To find out the causes of suicidal deaths in females of reproductive age group and the various reasons associated with them. Material & Methods: A retrospective study of pattern of alleged cases of suicidal deaths in women of reproductive age group (15-49Yrs) was conducted in S. P. Medical College and P.B.M Hospital, Bikaner (Western Rajasthan) during the period from 1st January 2017 to 31th December 2017. A total 73 cases of suicidal deaths in women of reproductive age group were studied out of 663 autopsy conducted during the study period. <br><br>RESULTS: During study period total 663 autopsies were conducted, out of which 73 were of female victims of reproductive age group suicidal autopsies constituting 11.01%. Maximum number of victims belonged to age group 20-24 years constituting 27.40%.The most common means adopted for committing suicide in majority of the deaths was poisoning (43.83%) followed by burn (28.77%), hanging (19.18%), drowning(4.10%) and roll over by train (4.10%). <br><br>CONCLUSIONS: Not only a strong legal support but essential Education, increasing marriage age, economic security by creating job opportunities, psychological counseling and empowerment of women should be an integral part of suicide prevention strategy. 25.17.16.94ondated15-Oct-2019. © 2018, Punjab Academy of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology.
