abstract="The authors examine some post-regulatory passenger car struck-side impact crash characteristics. Struck-side impact injury outcomes and crash characteristics were determined through UK In-depth Accident Database (CCIS) and UK National Accident Database (STATS 19) analysis. Clear side impact injury outcome improvements are shown through the UK national accident data when 'older' and 'newer' vehicle design samples are compared. Serious injury crash characteristic analysis suggests UNECE R95 test specifications usually do not match impact height (on struck vehicle) or collision speed in crash conditions. Struck-side impact crashes continue to offer challenges in regard to serious chest and head injury mitigation; contact with the intruding side door is most frequently associated with chest injuries and with an external object head injuries.<p />",
