abstract="The present prospective study was carried out at the mortuary of GMERS Medical College and Associated Civil Hospital, Sola, Ahmedabad. During the 5 calendar years from 2011 to 2015, we received a total of 1561 bodies for postmortem examination. Of them, 1183 (75.8 %) were males. The manner of death was ascertained as suicidal in nature for 195 (16.5 %) males and 148 females (39.2 %). The month associated with the maximum number of suicidal deaths was May. Majority were from the age group of 21-30 years (40.2%).Hanging (56.9%) was the most common cause of death, followed by poisoning (20.7%). The most common reason was unknown (51.6 %), followed by family disputes (20.4%). © 2018 Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology.<p /><p>Language: en</p>",
