abstract="Pesticide poisoning represents one of the main methods of suicide in the economically productive population of most countries, having a preponderant role in developing countries. Paraquat is one of the herbicides associated with high morbidity and mortality. Due to its mechanism of action and absence of an antidote, it usually leads to death within a few hours or days, depending on the amount of the toxin ingested. However, small amounts must not be underestimated because they can also have serious effects. The early implementation of measures that lead to reduction of toxic levels in the blood, as well as immunosuppressive therapy that reduces the impact of secondary oxidative stress, is essential to increase the survival of poisoned patients. © 2020 Asociación Colombiana de Medicina Crítica y Cuidado lntensivo<p /><p>Language: en</p>",
