abstract="The Comedy in Primo Levi: a hermeneutical tool ? · It is interesting to note that in The Castaways and the Survivors, Levi's last work before his suicide in 1987, the evocation of literary texts occupies a much more important place than the reference to historical and anthropological essays and to the testimonies of other survivors of the deportation. We will examine the hermeneutical function of the quotations from the Comedy in The Castaways and the Survivors with the help of state-ments given by the author himself during his numerous interviews. This employment will help us shed some light in retrospect on Dante's presence in Levi's narrative work, particularly in The Periodic Table and If This is a Man.
