abstract="The results of a cultural consistency evaluation of a substance abuse prevention program for African-American families in the city of Detroit, Michigan, is presented. Information obtained from an initial, pre- modification, cultural evaluation was used as a basis for modifications to the program. Following these modifications to the program, a second, post- modification, cultural evaluation was conducted to determine if changes made to the program increased cultural congruence and what impact, if any, an increase in congruence had on the results of ongoing process and outcome evaluations. Modifications to the program was associated with greater cultural congruence reflected by program process enhancement. The Program was found to be effective in reducing children's risk factors and increasing protective factors for substance abuse for both pre- and post-modification versions of the program.   <p></p>",
