abstract="The aim of this paper was to reflect on the importance of suicidal tendencies in individuals who developed symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder after experiencing rape. We present a case report of a rape victim who attempted suicide as a result of her trauma. The experience of rape can lead to post-traumatic stress disorder and dissociative states in the victim, increasing the risk of self-destructive behaviour and suicidal ideation. Analysing the case study we considered the destructive impact of traumatogenic mechanisms and severe stress, including their short- and long-term impact on a person's life. The results of the study highlight the importance of sensitising therapists to the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder and dissociative states in sexual violence survivors due to the associated risk of suicidal tendencies. Emphasising the long-term consequences of trauma should prompt the development of assistance programmes that go beyond emergency measures. © Psychiatr Psychol Klin 2022, 22 (3), p. 193-198.<p /><p>Language: pl</p>",
