abstract="In a retrospective study the charts of all alcoholic outpatients treated at a special ambulance for alcoholics at the psychiatric hospital of the University of Munich between 1932 and 1939 were evaluated. Data on psychopathology, alcohol and medical history and sociodemographic variables had been protocolled by a special documentary system. Psychiatric diagnosis had been made according to ICD-9 criteria. Of the 500 patients 333 (66.6%) were men, 167 (33.3%) women. Mean age was 40.1 (± 10.1 years. 331 (66.2%) of the 500 outpatients were treated at a special ward of the clinic later on. Approximately 50% of the alcoholic outpatients suffered from various psychopathological symptoms, e.g. depression. Nineteen % had a history of one or more suicide attempts. Female alcoholics showed a significantly higher rate of suicidal attempts. Outpatients with psychopathological symptomatology significantly more often became inpatients in comparison with other alcoholics. Psychopathological rather than sociodemographic variables or details of the alcohol history were found to be predictive for later inpatient treatment.<p /><p>Language: de</p>",
